The Muslim Council of Elders, led by its chairman, His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has vehemently condemned the mass kidnapping of over 300 students, teachers, and staff from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Nigeria.
The Council described the incident as a "horrific crime" that utterly "contradicts all religious and human values." It stressed that targeting children and educational institutions represents a "grave violation of the human right to education and to a safe life."
In its statement, the Muslim Council of Elders called for urgent international action to press for the immediate and safe release of all abductees. It also urged authorities to significantly strengthen the protection of schools across the nation to prevent the recurrence of such tragic events.
The Council expressed its full solidarity with the families of the victims, offering prayers for the safe return of those kidnapped and for the protection of Nigeria and its people from all harm.
