On Monday, a major power outage hit Spain, Portugal, and France. But, Spain seems to be the most country that suffers from such an outage.
Key train stations airports and other critical infrastructure were shut.
Parts of Portugal and France were also affected by the blackout, which energy authorities said occurred following a disruption in the European grid.
The Director of the Spanish transmission system operator Red Eléctrica, Eduardo Prieto said that the blackout was caused by a “very strong oscillation in the electrical network” that led Spain’s power system to “disconnect from the European system, and the collapse of the Iberian electricity network at 12:38."
Hospitals in Spain were forced to run on generators. Portuguese banks and schools were shut.
In addition, ATP announced that matches for the Madrid Open tennis tournament were suspended, the ATP Tour said.
In Murcia, crosswalk signs and traffic lights went dark which impacted the traffic.
In France, the Portuguese energy supplier said, “the Basque Coast and the Burgundy region also experienced power cuts.”
António Leitão Amaro, the minister of state for the presidency in Portugal, said on national radio that there was no evidence of a cyberattack.
In the same context, top officials revealed that the crisis could last for 10 hours.
