Early Sunday morning, Jordanian security forces killed a man who opened fire on public security officers near the Israeli embassy in Amman. The incident left three officers injured, according to official reports.
The Jordan News Agency (Petra) confirmed that the Public Security Directorate dealt with a "shooting incident targeting a patrol in the Rabieh area of the capital," resulting in the death of the assailant.
Government spokesperson and Minister of Government Communication, Mohammad Al-Momani, described the attack as a "terrorist assault" on Jordan’s public security forces.
"Jordan's stability and security are a red line," Al-Momani stated. "No one will be allowed to undermine national security. Any assault on public security officers will be met with resolute action and the full force of the law. Perpetrators will face just retribution."
Al-Momani also revealed that the attacker had a criminal background, including drug-related offenses. Investigations into the incident are ongoing to uncover all the details surrounding the case.
This marks the latest in a series of incidents highlighting security challenges in Jordan, a key ally in maintaining regional stability. The government has reiterated its commitment to upholding public safety and preventing further attacks.
