Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin was appointed as Egypt’s Climate Action Champion within the framework of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27), which is set to be hosted by Egypt in November 2022.
The decision aims at strengthening communication between the Egyptian officials in the conference and business circles, the private sector, as well as the international financial institutions working in areas related to confronting climate change.
Mohieldin is set to carry out his duties immediately in accordance with the framework of the "Marrakesh Partnership for Global Climate Action" approved by the States Parties to the Framework Convention.
His tasks will include coordinating with his British counterpart Nigel Topping and the UNFCCC secretariat to raise awareness of climate change issues.
Meanwhile, Mohieldin is the United Nations Special Envoy on Financing 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Also, he is an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund.
He has worked in a number of international economic and financial institutions that included; serving as the First Vice President of the World Bank for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in addition to being the former Egyptian Minister of Investment.
