Nicolás Maduro Moros, Venezuela president, declared that the authorities captured a U.S. spy targeting a pair of refineries on the north Caribbean coast as this nation suffers from a sever fuel shortage, CARACAS reported.

“We captured an American spy yesterday roaming around the Amuay and Cardon refineries in Falcon state,” Maduro claimed Friday in a live on state TV.

“He was a Marine who had served as a CIA operative in Iraq,” the president alleged. “He was arrested with specialized weapons, huge sums of cash, large amounts of dollars, and other supplies that we delivered directly to the Attorney General's office, without giving any further details.”

Venezuela is experiencing another wave of fuel shortages after intense rationing between May and June, which was temporarily mitigated by cargo shipped from Iran, its ally.
