In what seems to be an unprecedented creative move, the Queen of pop Madonna will direct and co-write a film about her life and career.
The untitled project has landed at Universal Pictures. A production timeline is unknown and the cast has yet to be announced.
Madonna, 62, will team with Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody on the script, the studio said in a statement on Tuesday.
The pair has been teasing the news on Instagram.
Madonna, whose career has spanned for five-decade, has seen countless musical reinventions. She burst onto the 1980s music scene and established herself as the Queen of Pop with best-selling albums such as "Like a Virgin", "True Blue", and "Like a Prayer".
The Queen of Pop made a run at filmmaking and acting, where she previously directed two features, the 2008 drama “Filth and Wisdom,” and the 2011 Golden Globe-winning “W.E.”.
Madonna starred in “Desperately Seeking Susan,”, “Dick Tracy”, and 1996’s “Evita,” which earned her a Golden Globe for best actress.
Along the way, she was certified as the best-selling female music artist in history, selling over 335 million records worldwide and remaining the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time.
Madonna remains one of the most awarded and critically acclaimed artists in history, with 658 prominent global award nominations and 225 wins. She has graced more than 4,700 magazine covers worldwide, according to Universal.
