France’s President Emmanuel Macron threatened to dissolve the House of Representatives if the pension reform bill failed to be adopted, according to local media.

The French BFMTV channel quoted a government source as saying, "Macron talked about the possibility of dissolving the House of Representatives in the event of the failure of the draft law on pension reform, during his meeting with Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne and the ministers related to the reform, on Wednesday evening."

The source added that consultations are still ongoing in order to mobilize support for reform.

It is worth mentioning that the reform includes an increase in the retirement age to 64 years, which sparked a wave of protests among the French, as mass demonstrations took place recently throughout the country.

The final vote in the French parliament on the pension reform bill is scheduled for Thursday.
