French President Emmanuel Macron has voiced his support for India's granting permanent membership to the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
In a joint statement issued at the end of the French President's meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Paris, "France affirmed its firm support for India's permanent membership in the UN Security Council as well as membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group."
Paris affirmed its readiness to continue close cooperation with India within the framework of the Group of Twenty.
The joint statement stressed that France and India have been strategic partners since 1998, and hope to deepen and broaden cooperation.
Macron referred to joint work in the fields of security, trade, and communications in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and the two sides expressed hope to continue cooperation in the defense field.
