France President Emmanuel Macron asserted his support for Finland and Sweden's NATO memberships, news outlets reported on Wednesday.
Macron's statements came during his talks with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at the Elysée Palace ahead of the NATO summit in Madrid, taking place from June 28 to 30.
He also reiterated his support for the two European countries that seek joining the Alliance, adding that they are close partners with strong defence abilities which will help in increasing the security and stability in European-Atlantic area.
Therefore, the French President expressed that his country will provide the two countries with more security guarantees ahead their NATO memberships.
During their discussion, Macron addressed Turkey and its objection to Sweden and Finland's NATO membership.
Previously, the French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement that his country will continue to support Ukraine with “humanitarian, economic and military supplies.
Macron said in a tweet: “As long as necessary, until peace returns to a free and independent Ukraine, we will remain committed.”
He added: “Humanitarian, economic and military support to enable Ukrainian soldiers to make a difference on the ground against the Russian army’s attacks.”
France, German, and Italian leaders took a private train headed to Kyiv, according to Italian and German media.
According to reports, French President Emmanuel Macron, German chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi took a night train headed to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv today, Thursday.
The German and Italian channels, “ZDF” and “La Repubblica” reported that the three leaders to this private train from Poland and they expected to arrive in Kyiv in the morning, today.
The Italian newspaper published pictures of the three leaders on the train, according to AFP.
The French Presidency confirmed that Macron is on his way to Ukraine today, Thursday, according to Reuters.
