Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport was temporarily closed early Tuesday following the crash of a UPS cargo plane, according to reports from Alqahera News Channel.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a UPS cargo aircraft crashed at the airport in Louisville, Kentucky. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced they will jointly lead an investigation into the incident to determine its cause.
“The FAA and NTSB will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the crash,” the aviation authority said in a statement, without providing further details about possible casualties or damage.
Local emergency services and airport officials responded immediately to the scene, prompting a temporary suspension of airport operations to ensure safety and allow for recovery efforts.
UPS has not yet issued an official statement regarding the circumstances of the crash or the condition of the crew.
Louisville serves as the global air hub for UPS, one of the world’s largest logistics and delivery companies. The airport closure caused brief disruptions to overnight cargo operations, though authorities said flights are expected to resume once the area is declared secure.
Further updates are expected as federal investigators begin their on-site examination.
