On Monday, the Libyan Parliament Speaker, Aguila Saleh, has kicked off a European tour to mobilize efforts and gain international support for his initiative that was launched some time ago and won the approval of the Egyptian side.

Aguila's initiative elaborated with points within the Cairo Declaration announced by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in July after a tripartite meeting with the Libyan speaker and the commander of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar.

Saleh's European tour started in the Russian capital, Moscow, where he confirmed his meeting with some of the Russian officials on the violations of the GNA government and its armed formations.

Saleh will travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to meet with the Acting Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General Stephanie Williams, who is assuming act as Special Representative in Libya following Ghassane Salama's resignation for health reasons.

Following Williams' meeting, Saleh will travel to the Italian capital, Rome, where he will hold meetings with Italian officials, headed by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

Saleh's expected meeting with Conte comes with the presence of a common factor between them, which is the rejection of the Turkish agreement with the GNA government concluded last November, which sparked great controversy and anger in several European capitals.

Saleh's proposals for settlement in Libya

The Speaker of the House of Representatives seeks politically this period to support his initiative that includes not new points, among his proposals is to end the task of the GNA government in the country and the formation of a presidential council representing the regions of Libya as well as the formation of a government separate from the presidential council that has an independent president.

Informed sources told 218 News, there are proposals that the city of Sirte will be the headquarters of the future government headed by Minister of Interior Al-Wefaq Fathi Bshajah. The new presidential council will be based in Benghazi, headed by Aguila Saleh.

It is expected that the coming days will bear answers regarding the initiative and the possibility of implementing its articles amid military tensions, along with the Turkish side's insistence on supporting the GNA forces to fight against the Libyan National Army.
