Lieutenant General Abdulrazek al-Nadoori, Chief of General Staff of the Libyan National Army (LNA), met with Mohammed al-Haddad, Chief of Staff of the Government of National Unity (GNU), on Saturday to discuss measures to unify the military.

Khairy al-Tamimi, a member of the 5+5 joint military council, said the meeting in Sirte was aimed at fostering confidence between the two sides.

He noted that efforts to unite the military institution are "going in the right path."

Meanwhile, the High National Election Commission disputed allegations that it had declared "force majeure," i.e., that the impending elections would be cancelled.

The polls have been annulled, according to a statement posted on the commission's official website.

The website was hacked, according to the commission, and the statement has subsequently been removed.

The statement denounced a threat by a presidential contender with dual nationality to use force against the panel, prompting the commission to declare "force majeure."

Meanwhile, Stephanie Williams, the UN's Libya envoy, emphasised the importance of respecting the will of the 2.8 million Libyans who had registered to vote in the elections on Friday.

In Tripoli, the ambassador met with Khalid al-Mishri, the head of the High Council of State.

She cited the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum's roadmap in a tweet, saying she "asked for quick and serious efforts to end Libya's already too protracted transitional period with free, fair, and credible elections."

She went on to say that her discussions with Mishri "outlined his intention to move towards national elections via a constitutional referendum in a timely manner."
