The Lebanese government has announced an immediate ban on Hezbollah’s activities, declaring them outside the framework of the law, while stating that the group’s role will be confined to political activity only.

Following a Cabinet session, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the decision reflects the state’s firm position that all military and security actions must fall exclusively under official institutions.

Salam stated that “the state rejects unequivocally any military or security actions outside its authority and affirms that decisions of war and peace rest solely with it,” adding that this necessitates the immediate prohibition of Hezbollah’s activities deemed unlawful.

He clarified that the measure includes restricting Hezbollah’s role to the political sphere, in line with the government’s effort to reinforce state sovereignty and centralize the use of force under official bodies.

The move comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing pressure on Beirut to assert full control over armed activity within its territory.
