On Thursday, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Bali, Indonesia Wednesday to take part in the G20 meeting of Foreign Ministers.
The summit is expected to be about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the looming global food crisis.
The meeting will take place in Bali on July 7-8.
US secretary of state Antony Blinken, Lavrov and Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi are all due to attend the meeting.
Lavrov is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Wang today, According to a source in the Chinese embassy in Jakarta.
Experts pointed out that the pisions over the presence of the Russian foreign minister could be the highlight of the meeting.
The West imposed sanctions against Russian since its military operation in Ukraine, in addition to making efforts to marginalize it.
Many European countries have provided support to Ukraine, which has withstood for more than 4 months in the face of the Russian invasion.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo attempted to mediate between Russia and Ukraine. He visited the two countries last week on a trip he described as a peace mission.
Last month, Widodo warned that global food crisis due to the war in Ukraine could push people of the developing and poor countries into “the abyss of the extreme poverty and hunger.”
