Japanese scientists discovered that the new COVID-19 variant, Lambda, is highly infectious, in addition, it is able to evade immunity, Sputnik reported on Friday.
Detected for the first time in Peru in 2020, Lambda variant is now spreading worldwide, and it is the dominant variant in Latin America.
In the same context, the World Health Organization reflected last week that this new variant could be resistant to vaccines. However, the international organization classified the spreading strain as "Variant of interest."
It is worthy to mention that Delta variant is still sparking the world's concern as it exists now in more than 80 countries, and it caused significant surge in number of daily infectious in Europe.
