The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Dokki hosted the third edition of its monthly initiative “Ahlan Korea,” highlighting the historic city of Andong—often described as the capital of Korean spiritual culture—through an immersive cultural program in Cairo.
The event brought together Korea.net Honorary Reporters, who serve as volunteer cultural ambassadors promoting Korean culture worldwide through multimedia storytelling. The gathering offered participants a closer look at Andong’s traditions, history, and UNESCO-recognized heritage.
The program opened with a presentation and promotional video introducing Andong’s cultural identity, including its customs, cuisine, and long-standing traditions. The session provided a broader context for understanding the city’s role as a key center of Korean heritage.
Attendees then took part in interactive activities designed to deepen engagement with Korean culture. Participants wore traditional hanbok attire and joined a hands-on mask-making workshop inspired by Andong’s famous mask dance tradition, known for its symbolic storytelling and historical roots.
The event also included a Korean culinary experience, allowing guests to explore traditional dishes and gain insight into the country’s food culture.
Oh Sung-ho, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, praised the efforts of the Korea.net Honorary Reporters for their role in promoting Korean culture in Egypt. He said their contributions help strengthen cultural exchange and deepen mutual understanding between the two countries.
Launched earlier this year, the “Ahlan Korea” initiative is set to continue throughout 2026 in collaboration with the Korean Tourism Organization, with each edition focusing on a different Korean city.
