On February 25, 2025, the Embassy of India in Cairo hosted the ‘Know & Connect with India’s Startup Ecosystem’ event at the Obelisk Ballroom, Sofitel Hotel, Nile Corniche. The event was organized to promote the upcoming Startup Mahakumbh 2025 Event, the largest gathering of Indian Startup Ecosystem scheduled for 3-5 April 2025 in New Delhi.
2. India hosts the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, boasting over 160,000 recognized startups and 118 unicorns. The event showcased some of India's leading startups across various sectors such as Zerodha, Zomato, Ola, Nykaa etc. The outreach event underscored India’s commitment to fostering global partnership in entrepreneurship and innovation.
3. Senior officials, policymakers, incubators, and startups from Egypt participated in the session, discussing avenues for bilateral collaboration in startup sectors. The event highlighted how Egyptian entrepreneurs and investors can engage with India’s startup ecosystem, creating synergies in fields such as fintech, AI, Cybersecurity, agritech, healthcare, and manufacturing.
4. The Embassy of India in Cairo made a detailed presentation about India’s startup ecosystem, transformative growth of startups in India from less than 500 to 160,000 during the last decade. Ms. C. Sushma, Charge d'Affaires at the Embassy of India, spoke about the significant possibilities for India-Egypt collaboration in the field of startups including (i) Sharing the policy-making experience (ii) Access to each other’s markets and investment ecosystems and (iii) mutually beneficial collaboration between startups.
5. Dr. Tamer Taha, Advisor to the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Head of the Private Sector Participation Unit, delivered a presentation on Egypt's startup landscape and the vision to establish Egypt as a hub for startups in the MENA region.
6. Startup Mahakumbh 2025 will feature 3,000 exhibitors, 10,000 startups, 1,000 investors, 12 thematic pavilions including AI & Deeptech, Cybersecurity, B2B & Precision Manufacturing, Defence & Space Tech, Biotech & Health Tech, D2C & Brands, Fintech, Gaming & Sports, Agritech, Climate Tech, Incubators & Accelerators, and Mobility, a keynote by the Hon'ble PM of India, networking opportunities, and international participation packages. The conference segment will encompass 11 thematic tracks, masterclasses, panel discussions, fireside chats, and pitching opportunities, providing a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their innovations and connect with industry leaders, policymakers, and investors.
7. It would be an opportune moment for stakeholders from Startup ecosystem of Egypt to visit India to attend the event, gain insights from India’s success stories and forge meaningful and mutually beneficial partnerships.
