King Mohammed VI: Moroccanness of Sahara "Non-negotiable"

Moroccan King Mohammed VI addressed a speech on Saturday, to the people on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the Green March.

King Mohammed VI said that Morocco is not negotiating over the Moroccanness of the Sahara, but rather a solution to this feigned conflict.

The Moroccan monarch stressed that the Kingdom's sovereignty over the Sahara is an undisputed topic and that the Moroccanness of the Sahara has never been and will never be on the negotiating table.

The king added, "In recent months, we have recorded calmness and tangible developments in the defense of our desert."

He continued, "The Moroccanness of the Sahara is an undisputed reality, due to history and legitimacy, the strong will of its people, and broad international recognition."

He stated that Morocco celebrates today with full pride the forty-sixth anniversary of the Green March in a context marked by many gains and challenges, stressing that the positive dynamic in the case cannot be stopped.

The Moroccan monarch praised the Royal Armed Forces, which on November 13, 2020, secured the freedom of movement of people and goods through the Guerguerat crossing, between Morocco and Mauritania, indicating that this peaceful and resolute action put an end to the provocations and attacks, which Morocco had previously drawn the attention of the international community to because of its danger to the security and stability of the region.

He explained that the United States' recognition of Morocco's full sovereignty over its Sahara is a natural result of the continued support and constructive role of previous American administrations in order to settle this issue.

He stated that this approach irreversibly strengthens the political process towards a final solution based on the initiative of autonomy within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

The Moroccan monarch also sent a message to those he described as "people with ambiguous or double positions," as he said that Morocco will not take any economic or commercial step with them that does not include the Moroccan Sahara.

Concluding his speech, the King stressed that the issue of the Sahara is the essence of the national unity of the Kingdom, and it is the issue of all Moroccans, which requires everyone to continue mobilization and vigilance, to defend national and territorial unity, and to consolidate the development and political achievements that our southern provinces know.
