Khabane Lame, 22, became the world's best tiktoker on Wednesday, officially surpassing American Charlie D'Amelio, 18.
Lame has a staggering 142.8 million followers, as of Thursday afternoon, while D'Amelio is close with 142.3 million.
Lame was born in Senegal in 2000 before emigrating with his parents to Italy the following year.
After high school, he started working as a machine operator in the northern city of Turin before being laid off from work in March 2020.
“The pandemic was just starting, and I was bored with having so much time on my hands, so I started making videos on TikTok,” Lam told Forbes.
Lame, who is learning English, rarely speaks in his videos. His clips are based on visual humor and are accessible to viewers all over the world, with humor as its only language.
