Juventus' players and manager Maurizio Sarri have agreed to stop their wages for four months to save the club an estimated 90m euros (£80.7m) during the coronavirus pandemic.

All domestic sports activities in Italy have been suspended until April 3 as the COVID-19 has badly affected the country.

Italy has recorded on Sunday a new 756 coronavirus deaths, taking the death toll in the European country to 10779.

It also confirmed 5000 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of detected cases to 97689.

According to BBC, the Juve squad, which includes Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey, will not be paid their full salaries in March, April, May, and June.

On its part, the Italian club thanked all the players for this great stance.

"Juventus would like to thank the players and the coach for their commitment at a difficult time for everyone," said a statement by the club.

The COVID-19 caused complete paralysis in football across Europe as the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced the continent as ‘epicenter’ of the virus.

More than 700,000 persons around the world have been infected by the virus, which claimed the lives of more than 33,000 worldwide. It also hit a number of top political figures around the world.

On Friday, UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus, as the outbreak spreads across the country.

Johnson confirmed the news in a video posted on Twitter, saying: “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.”

He continued: “I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives”

The announcement comes days after Prince Charles was confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus.
