Spanish veteran full-back Jordi Alba has officially announced his retirement from football at the end of the current MLS season, bringing down the curtain on a distinguished career spanning more than two decades.

The 36-year-old’s decision marks the end of an era for one of the most dynamic defenders of his generation.

Alba joined Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, reuniting with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.

His retirement comes as both players are also expected to call time on their illustrious careers in the near future.

Throughout his career, Alba combined defensive solidity with exceptional attacking flair, establishing himself as one of the standout full-backs of modern football.

He collected numerous domestic, continental, and international titles with Barcelona, Inter Miami, and the Spanish national team.

His announcement follows Busquets’ recent retirement, symbolically closing a golden chapter in Barcelona’s modern history.

Together with Messi, Alba and Busquets formed one of the most successful partnerships the sport has ever seen.
