Jordan’s King Abdullah II has traveled to Egypt for a critical meeting with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, signaling deepening coordination between the two nations as the Middle East grapples with escalating tensions.
The visit comes at a moment following the devastating Gaza war, which has left the region in turmoil and raised urgent questions about the path forward for peace and stability.
The Royal Hashemite Court confirmed the King’s departure on Monday, describing the trip as a working visit. Jordanian news agency Petra stated that the discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key regional and international developments.
This high-level meeting highlights the shared concerns of both nations over the deepening crisis in Gaza and its impact on the region. The Gaza war, which erupted on October 7, 2023, has resulted in catastrophic humanitarian consequences, claiming tens of thousands of lives.
Both Jordan and Egypt have played leading roles in efforts to de-escalate the violence. Jordan, which has consistently championed the two-state solution as the foundation for Middle East peace, has warned against continued Israeli aggression in Palestinian territories.
