Hollywood star Johnny Depp has made around £3 million ($3.6 million) in just a few hours of selling pieces from his debut artwork collection.
The actor announced Thursday Instagram on that he was selling the art through Castle Fine Art's 37 galleries, which is headquartered in Birmingham, England.
The post prompted a rush of traffic to the gallery's website, which caused it to crash briefly.
Depp sold 780 prints through Castle Fine Art's 37 galleries, with the four main pictures going for around £14,950 ($18,000) each.
Depp's collection, titled "Friends And Heroes", depicts pop-art portraits of four people who inspired him: actor Al Pacino, Rolling Stone guitarist Keith Richards, singer Bob Dylan, and Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor.
"I've always used art to express my feelings. My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves" the 59-year-old said in a statement.
The actor said he used his art, which also depicted actor Al Pacino and folk legend Bob Dylan, to reflect on those who matter most to him, like his family, friends, and people he admired.
In a press release, the gallery described the acclaimed actor's work as existing "at the intersection of pop art and street art" and as "pop art with feeling".
