An institute, under the  Japanese Defense Ministry, warned on Friday that the Chinese military has upgraded its conventional land, sea, and air forces with space, electronic, and knowledge warfare forces to enhance its capabilities in joint operations with the aim of equaling or surpassing the United States in 2050.

Japan's Kyodo news agency reported that the annual report on China's security strategy published by the National Institute for Defense Studies was released at a time when the rivalry between Washington and Beijing is intensifying, and interest in the timetable for a possible Chinese invasion of self-ruled Taiwan is growing.

In March 2021, the commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral Philip Davidson, said that China might try to invade Taiwan within the next six years".

The China Security Report 2022 stated that after decades of military reform, China has, to some extent, established central command structures to defend its combat systems and identify and strike vital weaknesses of potential adversaries.

The report continued that the People's Liberation Army (PLA)  of China "went beyond just imitating Western countries, as it has made the concept of joint operations unique by being based on the traditions of the PLA, in addition to its new outlook that takes new technological developments into account."

According to the report, Chinese President Xi Jinping accelerated the concept of integration after he became head of the Chinese Communist Party in 2012 and even more after he became president the following year.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan from 2016 to 2020, the PLA conducted "more than 100 joint operations training which included the mobilization of actual personnel," the report said, citing the People's Liberation Army Daily, the official newspaper of the CPC Central Military Commission.
