Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its junior coalition partner, the Komeito party, agreed on Friday to export the next-generation fighter jets developed by Japan in collaboration with Britain and Italy to third-party countries.

The agreement among the ruling party leaders in Japan came within the framework of discussions on internationally developed defense equipment exports to third-party countries.

It was agreed to limit these exports to the next-generation fighter jets at present, according to Japan's Jiji Press Agency.

Under the agreement, the Japanese government is expected to soon revise its guidelines on defense equipment exports to enable the export of fighter jets.

To allay Komeito party's concerns about losing control over the defense equipment export process, the Japanese government will propose strict measures requiring Cabinet decisions not only to review guidelines but also to actualize defense equipment exports.
