In alignment with the G7 nations' commitment to bolster support for Kyiv, the Japanese Foreign Ministry disclosed on Thursday that Japan will extend an extra $1 billion in humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

The announcement came in the wake of a G7 online summit, during which Prime Minister Fumio Kishida made this substantial commitment.

The aid package encompasses both humanitarian assistance and contributions to reconstruction efforts.

Consequently, Japan's total assistance to Ukraine will amount to $4.5 billion, including loan guarantees directed towards the World Bank, as outlined in the ministry's official statement.

Last week, the World Bank announced its intent to grant a loan to Kiev, with the Japanese government providing the necessary guarantee for this financial support.

The G7 leaders convened virtually on Wednesday to conclude Japan's tenure as the presiding nation within the group.

In a collective declaration, the G7 nations reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to provide steadfast support to Ukraine.

Following Russia's initiation of a special military operation in Ukraine, the United States and its allies substantially escalated their aid efforts to Kiev.

In response, Moscow has consistently cautioned that foreign aid to the Ukrainian government could potentially prolong the ongoing conflict.
