Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi has issued a firm call to Israel to move forward with the U.S.-led peace plan for the Gaza Strip. During a high-level diplomatic meeting, Motegi emphasized Japan's commitment to playing a pivotal role in the early recovery and long-term reconstruction of the war-torn territory.

According to reports from Japan’s NHK, Minister Motegi stressed the urgent need for both Palestinian and Israeli authorities to take concrete steps toward dismantling the "deep-seated mistrust" that has plagued the region for decades. He stated that reducing regional tensions is essential for establishing a sustainable peace.

Humanitarian Protection and International Law In his discussions with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, Motegi urged the Israeli government to prioritize the protection of civilians and ensure that international NGOs and humanitarian organizations have unfettered access to provide aid to Gazans.

The Japanese Foreign Minister also voiced grave concerns regarding Israeli settlement activities in the West Bank, describing them as a direct violation of international law. He warned that escalating settler violence could further destabilize the Middle East and called on Israel to immediately halt "unilateral actions" that undermine the viability of a two-state solution.

Japan's Diplomatic Role Japan, which has maintained a balanced diplomatic approach in the Middle East, is positioning itself as a key financial and technical partner for Gaza's redevelopment. By advocating for a halt to West Bank settlements while supporting Gaza's reconstruction, Tokyo seeks to strengthen the foundations for regional security and the eventual realization of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.
