Japan has announced a $10.6 million military aid package to the Philippines, aiming to strengthen its defense capabilities and contribute to regional stability.

The assistance, provided under Tokyo’s Official Security Assistance (OSA) program, reflects Japan’s commitment to fostering security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

The agreement, formalized by Philippine Foreign Minister Enrique Manalo and Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya, includes advanced military equipment for the Philippine armed forces.

The Navy will receive rigid-hull inflatable boats, coastal radar systems, and other critical assets, while the Air Force will benefit from airborne surveillance radar systems.

This aid package more than doubled the $4 million provided by Japan in 2023, signaling a substantial upgrade in military cooperation between the two nations.

Japan’s support highlights its strategic focus on promoting peace and security in Southeast Asia, addressing shared challenges, and reinforcing maritime security.
