On Monday, the Japanese government announced its decision to allocate an additional budget of ¥20.7 billion to support the fishing industry, following the comprehensive ban imposed by China on imports of marine products from Japan.
According to Japan's "Jiji Press" news agency, the government has introduced a policy package valued at ¥100.7 billion to bolster the domestic industry, including providing supplementary aid.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida urged the public to understand the situation and offer their support, stating, "We call on the public to understand and support us," while encouraging increased consumption of local fish products.
Last month, Kishida issued directives to relevant ministers to develop measures to address the import ban imposed by China.
The policy package aims to reduce the local fishing industry's dependence on the Chinese market.
The Chinese mainland, along with Hong Kong, imported 35% and 73% respectively of Japan's oyster and sea cucumber products.
