Janet Yellen's historic move to head the U.S. Treasury took a major step forward on Friday after she easily passed a major vote in the Senate.
Yellen, 74, of Polish Jewish descent, is still awaiting confirmation from the entire Senate. Data indicates that she will move into the Senate floor before Friday ends.
Combined with the range of experience she brings with her, the date will make Yellen the first woman to ever hold the position, as she was previously the first woman to chair the Federal Reserve.
On Friday, the Senate Finance Committee approved President Joe Biden's decision to appoint Yellen as Secretary of the Treasury, and sent the nomination 26 votes to none.
Senator Maria Cantwell from Washington, said: "We are proud to have now the first woman to hold the position of Secretary of the Treasury of the United States. I really hope you lead a new day in the Treasury Department to focus on Main Street issues of the workforce, and the important aspects of getting the US economy back on track, bring unemployment down."
