Jaguar Land Rover Temporarily Halts Deliveries to US to Mitigate Tariffs Impact

British automaker Jaguar Land Rover has temporarily halted deliveries to the United States in an effort to mitigate the impact of 25% tariffs on vehicle imports imposed by the Trump administration.

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive, one of Britain's largest carmakers, announced on Saturday that the halt would begin this month.

"The United States is an important market for Jaguar Land Rover's premium brands. As we work to address the new trading terms with our trading partners, we are taking some short-term actions, including halting deliveries in April, as we develop our medium- and long-term plans," the company said in a statement.

The UK automotive industry is expected to be severely impacted by the new tariffs, which come as British automakers struggle with declining domestic demand and the need to retool their factories for the transition to electric vehicles.

"The automotive sector is already facing multiple challenges, and this announcement could not have come at a worse time," said Mike Hawes, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), last week.

He added: "The SMMT is in constant contact with the government and is working to accelerate trade discussions, as we need to find a way forward that supports jobs and economic growth on both sides of the Atlantic."

The number of cars manufactured in the UK fell by 13.9% to 779,584 last year, according to the SMMT. More than 77% of these were destined for the export market.
