On their way to school, dozens of students were facing an inescapable death.
Almost 40 minutes between life and death, 13 years old Rami Shehata had the courage to save his school mates from an uncertain fate.
The hero Ramy Shehata
Shehata's incredible acts of bravery surpassed all expectations. His intelligence, intuitive speed, and courage made him a hero, and the talk of Italian and international press.
The young man's excellent qualities helped him save the lives of 50 of his colleagues, who were accompanying him on the school bus.
Against terrorism, hate, and violence, Shehata delivered an honorable image of the Egyptian youth.
Based in Italy with his father, who works there, Shehata originates from the village of Meet El-Karma in Dakahlia governorate, Egypt.
On his way to school with his Italian classmates, the driver wanted to hijack the bus and set it on fire.
Unlike all the other students, who lived moments of horror and terror, the Egyptian hero was courageous and dared to face the situation. He was able to fool the driver, who was threatening them with weapons and gasoline.
The story was narrated by Shehata himself after Minister of Immigration and Expatriate affairs Nabila Makram received him at the Ministry's headquarters to honor him for his heroism and courage.
"The bus driver, who was carrying a lighter, gasoline and a knife, was supposed to deliver us to school, suddenly changed course and started to threaten us," Shehata said.
"He asked us to hand over all the mobile phones but, I denied having one and I asked my colleagues to make a loud noise, so I could have the opportunity to call the police and report the incident," he continued.
The plan succeeded and Shehata managed to call his father and informed him of the life-threatening situation they were facing.
Shortly after the police arrived to arrest the suspect, all the students were saved.

Following investigations, it turned out the suspect (Ousseynou Sy, a 47 years old Senegalese immigrant), who received an Italian citizenship, wanted to set the bus on fire and kill all the students in it. Ousseynou's motive came in response to the death of his children during their migration route to Italy.
He believes the Italian authorities should be held responsible for the death of his children due to the ban imposed over illegal immigration.
Meantime, Shehata was honored in Italy, however, the young Pharaoh was the most delighted person to be honored at home.
