Italy has reiterated that weapons supplied to Ukraine must only be used within its borders, according to Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Speaking in Brussels on Monday during a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Tajani emphasized the strict limitation on how Ukrainian forces can deploy the arms provided by Italy.
“Our stance on Ukraine’s use of weapons remains unchanged: they can only be used within Ukrainian territory,” Tajani stated, reaffirming the country’s commitment to this policy.
The Italian foreign minister’s remarks come in the wake of a significant policy shift by Washington.
The US has authorized Ukraine to utilize long-range missiles to strike Russian territory, according to an American official.
This development marks a major strategic adjustment, occurring just weeks before Donald Trump's possible return to power.
These long-range missiles, with ranges of several hundred kilometers, could enable Ukraine to target key Russian military infrastructure.
This includes logistical hubs and airbases used for launching fighter jets, potentially altering the dynamics of the ongoing conflict.
