Italy has announced a €68 million ($73.2 million) aid package for Syria, aimed at funding humanitarian projects and rebuilding infrastructure in the war-torn country.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani informed lawmakers on Thursday that the financial support is critical for stabilizing Syria and supporting its ongoing transition.

Syria has faced years of devastation due to conflict, which began in 2011 as a civil uprising against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

The war led to immense destruction, a humanitarian crisis, and the displacement of millions of Syrians.

However, in a historic turn of events, opposition forces led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) removed Assad from power in December, ending his family's decades-long rule.

The Italian aid package is expected to focus on rebuilding critical infrastructure, supporting essential services, and providing humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the war.

Tajani emphasized that Italy’s commitment to Syria’s stabilization aligns with broader international efforts to support the country’s recovery and ensure a smooth transition toward a new political framework.

With Syria entering a new chapter, international assistance will be crucial in rebuilding the nation and addressing the humanitarian needs of its population.
