Italy has sent more than 15 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza in a continued effort to alleviate the suffering of its civilians, according to a statement from the Italian Ministry of Defense.
A military aircraft carrying the aid took off on Saturday, bound for the region. The supplies were gathered by an Italian charity and include essential items to assist those affected by the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto expressed Italy’s steadfast commitment to reducing civilian hardship in Gaza, stating, "Italy has and will continue to do everything it can to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population in Gaza."
Crosetto reaffirmed that Italy has not forgotten the people in Gaza and is committed to de-escalating the situation.
The aid flight is en route to Larnaca Airport in Cyprus, where the goods will be transferred to another aircraft and transported to Gaza.
The delivery is part of Italy’s broader humanitarian efforts, which include the ongoing "Food for Gaza" initiative launched earlier this year to support the population in Gaza with essential food and medical supplies.
Italy has also previously sent multiple shipments of aid to the Palestinian territory, which has been severely affected by conflict and widespread destruction.
