Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has called for assistance to Africa to change the approach of those who wish to leave it, and urged the European Union to consider the budgetary implications of instability in North African countries, including Libya.
Meloni stated that the European Union budget takes into account the instability in North Africa, and that Italy is calling for a review of the multi-year budget "taking into account the instability of North African countries," according to the Italian news agency, Nova.
The Italian Prime Minister stressed that if the European Union provides an option for people trying to leave Africa, "the approach will change" and added that "Africa is not a poor continent, it has many resources."
She explained that "they are huge producers of energy, especially clean energy, and we have a supply problem, and Italy can be a gateway for these investments," adding that "we are all agreed on that," according to Nova.
Italy has been grappling with a major migration crisis for years, with many people attempting to leave North Africa and make the treacherous journey across the Mediterranean to reach Europe. Meloni's call for assistance to Africa highlights the need for a coordinated approach to address the root causes of migration and instability in the region.
