Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte received the Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez al-Sarraj at the government headquarters in Rome on Saturday.

A brief statement by the Italian authorities reported that the two sides discussed the latest developments in Libya and coordination between both countries in some files.

Al-Sarraj and Conte stressed during the meeting to address the Libyan crisis politically and can be unsolved militarily, the statement added.

Conte called for the revival of the political process to achieve stability in Libya in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution and the outputs of the Berlin Conference.

It was agreed to form a committee to follow up on the resumption of the activities of Italian companies in Libya, in addition to the continuation of Italy's contribution to the demining process that started days ago.

Libya has been marred in violence between competing forces, militias, and extremists since the toppling and killing of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The conflict now pits the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) against the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, for control of the country.
