On the occasion of World Music Day and with the intention of promoting knowledge of the Italian musical repertoire of the late nineteenth century, the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo is hosting “Affresco Italiano”, which is a cello-piano duo consist of two Italian artists Ludovica Rana, cellist and Maddalena Giacopuzzi, pianist
The cello-piano duo presents a program focused on the musical work of three great Italian composers of the late romanticism: Ferruccio Busoni, Giuseppe Martucci and Francesco Cilea. The proposed works draw a space-time area that describes a decade of great spiritual, artistic and cultural intensity: 1880-1890. A decade characterized by a spiritual climate that sought to affirm its own style and connotation, a particularly dense period for the Italian musical scene in which chamber music not only found its place, but defined its considerable cultural depth.
A season marked by a cultural battle, in which the Italian musicians "placed" themselves, with considerable effort, in a totally operatic context in Italy and with a strong instrumental presence in Germany. Busoni, Martucci and Cilea have outlined a path that has defined stylistic innovations for future generations.
The duo composed by Ludovica Rana, cellist and Maddalena Giacopuzzi, pianist was formed in 2018 and already has played numerous concerts in renowned festivals partnering with Roman Philharmonic Academy, Society of the Concerts of Milan, Academy Verona Philharmonic, Viotti Festival, Vercelli Civic Theater, Walton Foundation, Milan music, Oratorio del Gonfalone, Rome, Musica Insieme, Bologna, Friends of Music of Lonigo, Sfere Sonore Association, Lecce, Association Opera Prima, Lecce.
