Several flights from Istanbul Airport to Tehran were cancelled on Friday evening amid rising regional tensions following US threats of potential strikes against Iran.
The cancellations were announced by Turkish Airlines along with two Iranian airlines, according to the airport’s official website.
Four additional flights scheduled for Saturday were also cancelled, including two operated by Turkish Airlines. However, six other flights between Istanbul and Tehran were still scheduled to operate.
Another Turkish Airlines flight bound for Tabriz in northern Iran was also cancelled. The flight was scheduled to depart from Istanbul at 01:45 local time (22:45 GMT) on Saturday.
Turkish authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the situation in Iran, nor have they released specific travel guidance for Turkish citizens planning to visit the country.
Turkey shares a border of approximately 550 kilometers with Iran, and the two countries are connected by three land border crossings.
