Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel has imposed a ceasefire in southern Syria by force and will maintain a demilitarized buffer zone from the occupied Golan Heights to the Druze Mountain (Jabal Al-Druze).
Netanyahu claimed that intensive Israeli military activity led to the withdrawal of Syrian government forces toward Damascus. “The Syrian forces’ pullback to Damascus is a result of our intensified operations,” he said, adding that the ceasefire in the Suwayda region and the redeployment of troops came as a direct consequence of Israeli military pressure.
In a separate statement, the Israeli army spokesperson Effie Defrin revealed that more than 100 targets in Suwayda, southern Syria, had been struck in recent days. The strikes reportedly included military vehicles and other strategic assets.
Meanwhile, Syrian media reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted a convoy of tribal militia forces in northern Suwayda province and bombed a gathering of tribal groups near Suwayda city itself.
The escalation follows weeks of growing tension in the region, amid ongoing clashes involving Syrian government forces, Druze militias, and tribal groups.
Israel's actions are likely to draw criticism from Damascus and its allies, with concerns that the conflict could further destabilize the already volatile southern Syrian front.
