Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Martin stated that the ongoing war in Gaza and the loss of innocent lives are unacceptable and constitute collective punishment of the Palestinian people, violating international law.
Moreover,Martin reaffirmed that Ireland’s position on the Middle East conflict will always be guided by principles of international law and the obligation of all nations to adhere to humanitarian law.
He clarified that Ireland has no plans to close its embassy in Israel, following Israel’s decision to shut down its embassy in Dublin. “I strongly believe in the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels,” Martin said, expressing regret over Israel’s decision to close its diplomatic mission in Ireland.
The Minister emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all Israeli hostages, and a significant increase in humanitarian aid into Gaza.
