On Tuesday, Iraqi parliament Speaker Mohammed Halbousi was dismissed after the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court decision against Halbousi.
After the decision, three government ministers who are backed by Halbousi's group will resign in protest of the latest decision, according to a statement by Halbousi’s Taqaddom party.
The Taqaddom party described the decision as “blatantly unconstitutional” and “clear political targeting,” adding, that it would boycott meetings of the State Administration Coalition, and parliament sessions.
Halbousi was serving his second run as a speaker of the parliament after his re-election in 2021.
The new power-sharing system was established in 2003 after the US invasion of Iraq.
The system ruled that the Prime Minister should be Shitte Muslim, while the speaker of the parliament should be a Sunni Muslim. Regarding the head of the state, it should be a Kurd.
