Iraq’s Intelligence Chief, Hamid al-Shatri, visited Damascus at the head of a high-level delegation.
During the visit, al-Shatri met with Ahmed al-Sharaa, the new leader of Syria's political administration, a meeting that has stirred mixed reactions in Iraq, with supporters and opponents voicing their views.
Many questioned the motives behind the meeting and its potential impact on the interests of both Iraq and Syria. Meanwhile, some Iraqis pointed out that Ahmed al-Sharaa, previously known as al-Jolani, had been sentenced to death in Iraq on terrorism charges.
