The Arab League's General Secretariat has announced that Iraq has formally requested an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives.
The session, to be held as soon as possible, will address allegations made by Israel about increased attacks on its territory originating from Iraq since September, which it claims are escalating tensions in the region.
Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, stated on Friday that the League received Iraq's official request and has circulated it among member states for consultation regarding a proposed date for the session.
Zaki confirmed that several member states have expressed support for Iraq's request. The final date for the session will be determined after consultations between the Arab League’s General Secretariat and Yemen, the current chair of the Arab League Council.
According to Iraq's memorandum, distributed to Arab member states, Israel's threats were outlined in a letter sent to the UN Security Council. Iraq claims that Israel is using these allegations to justify expanding its aggressive actions in the region, potentially dragging it into a broader regional conflict.
