Iran's President Ibrahim Risi called for independent activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in Tehran, on Saturday, IRNA news agency reported.
"Raisi emphasized the need to preserve the independence of the IAEA and respect the rights of the Iranians in bilateral cooperation with the agency," the news agency said.
Grossi arrived in Tehran on Friday for talks with Iranian officials and requested "credible assurances" about the country's nuclear program.
The visit comes at a time when the agency seeks to increase Iran's cooperation in its nuclear activities. After landing in Tehran, Grossi met the head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami.
The IAEA recently reported obtaining highly enriched uranium evidence, below the nuclear weapon-building threshold.
Grossi met Raisi as part of his two-day visit. The Iranian president Political Chief of Staff Mohammad Jamshidi, mentioned that the president had "called cooperation a two-way street that continues based on Agency independence and fulfillment of the rights of the Iranian nation."
