Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts—the body currently managing Iran’s affairs on a temporary basis—has confirmed that the council has identified proposed names for the position of the new Supreme Leader.
"We are close to selecting the new leader and are working within legal frameworks," Khatami stated, noting that "enemies" are attempting to target the Assembly of Experts following the assassination of Khamenei.
On Tuesday evening, Hebrew media outlets cited an Israeli official confirming that a meeting of the 88-member Assembly of Experts had been targeted.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, the meeting was reportedly convened in Tehran specifically to select a new Supreme Leader.
Iran, for its part, has denied that such a meeting took place.
Officials emphasized that no session was held and dismissed the Israeli reports as a component of "psychological warfare."
