Iranian state television said dozens of members of the security forces have been killed during continuing anti-government protests across the country, as clashes between demonstrators and law-enforcement units intensify.
According to the report, the deaths occurred in several provinces amid what authorities described as armed attacks, riots, and confrontations targeting police stations and security checkpoints. Hundreds of other officers were said to have been wounded during efforts to disperse crowds and restore control in major cities and towns.
The unrest, now in its second week, has been driven by mounting anger over economic hardship, political restrictions, and deteriorating living conditions. Security forces have been deployed in large numbers, while communications blackouts and movement restrictions have been imposed in some areas in an attempt to curb the spread of protests.
Officials accused what they called “armed groups and hostile elements” of exploiting the demonstrations to carry out attacks on state institutions, warning that firm measures would continue to protect public order and national security.
The situation remains highly volatile, with reports of daily clashes, arrests, and casualties on both sides, as Iran faces one of the most serious waves of internal unrest in recent years.
