Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Cairo on Wednesday evening, leading a high-level delegation on a private jet from Tehran. His visit marks the first by an Iranian president to Egypt in over 11 years. President Pezeshkian is attending the 11th Summit of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, comprising eight Muslim-majority developing nations.

Before departing Tehran, Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of unity among Islamic nations, calling for collaboration to transcend differences. “We will discuss key issues such as Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon,” he stated, according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

Pezeshkian also highlighted Iran’s active role within the D-8 group, underscoring the potential of these summits to strengthen ties between Islamic nations across social, political, economic, and cultural dimensions. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to fostering friendly relations with other Islamic countries to counter external adversarial schemes.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, established in 1997, aims to enhance economic integration and development among its member states: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. This year’s summit in Cairo brings together leaders and delegates to discuss critical issues, including economic cooperation, sustainable development, and regional stability.
