A senior Iranian official said ongoing negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program are consistent with the country’s doctrine rejecting nuclear weapons and expressed confidence in the negotiating authority of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The secretary of Iran’s Supreme Defense Council said that if the central goal of negotiations is to ensure Iran does not possess nuclear weapons, such an objective would align with Iran’s strategic doctrine and a religious decree issued by the country’s supreme leadership banning nuclear arms.

The official added that Araghchi has the full political backing and authority needed to conclude a potential agreement.

The remarks come as diplomatic efforts continue following recent rounds of talks in Muscat and Geneva aimed at reaching a broader understanding on Iran’s nuclear activities.

Officials have indicated cautious optimism about the negotiations, with a diplomatic source saying Iran has presented proposals that could serve as a foundation for progress toward a future agreement.
