Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Iraq has proposed holding discussions between Cairo and Tehran at the political and security levels to mend fences between the two nations.

In an interview with Iran's Mizan news agency, which was released on Saturday, the senior diplomat made the comments.

The proposition, according to Amir-Abdollahian, was made by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, whom he met last week while attending a regional conference in Amman, Jordan.

The foreign minister praised the concept of the prime minister of Iraq and promised that al-Sudani will take steps in the coming weeks to make such negotiations possible.

Iran has expressed a desire to improve relations with Egypt in recent years by resolving disagreements on specific areas.
